Connect Ahrefs Free (Formerly Webmaster Tools)
Ahrefs Free is the new name for Ahrefs Webmaster Tools (AWT). It's a free plan for verified site owners. It unlocks backlink and site health data that usually sits behind a paid plan.
Why this matters
It gives you a free look at your backlinks, top pages, and a technical health audit. That kind of data otherwise costs over $100 a month.
✓ How to do it
- Go to ahrefs.com/free and create a free account. The old ahrefs.com/webmaster-tools link leads to the same plan.
- Add your site and verify it. Connecting Google Search Console is the fastest way.
- Run Site Audit to get a free crawl, a health score, and an issue list.
- Open Site Explorer for your verified site to see your referring domains and top backlinks.
Done whenThe site is verified in Ahrefs Free and the first Site Audit has finished.

Tips & pitfalls
- The free plan has monthly limits, but for one site it's plenty to baseline your backlinks and catch big technical issues.
