Prove Every Form Reaches a Person
A form is only done when a human reads what was sent. This lesson makes you send a real test and follow it all the way to an inbox.
Why This Matters
The worst mistake is trusting a green check. A form on this very course site sent every case study submission into a 405 error after a host move. Nothing was captured and the visitor saw no error. A page loading fine told us nothing, so we now test by sending a real submission.
✓ How To Do It
- List every form on the site. Look at the contact page, each service page, the footer and any pop up.
- Open the first form on a phone. Fill in your own name, a number you can answer and a short note like TEST please ignore.
- Press the send button. Watch what the page does. It should show a clear thank you.
- Open the inbox where leads should land. Look for the message. Check the spam folder too.
- Write down how long it took to arrive. Under a minute is the goal.
- Open the message and check it shows every field the visitor typed. A missing phone number makes the lead useless.
- Reply to it, or call the number in it, to confirm you can reach the sender.
- Repeat for every form on your list, one at a time. A second form may use a different setup.
- If one fails, open your browser's developer tools, go to the Network tab, send again and look at the response. A 405 or 500 means the form handler is broken.
- Put a repeat date on your calendar. Test every form once a month and after any host or site change.
Done WhenSave a screenshot of each test message in the inbox, with the time it was sent and the time it arrived.
Tips & Pitfalls
- Send the test from a phone on mobile data, not only your office Wi-Fi.
- Never test with a real customer's details.
- If leads go to one person's inbox, add a second person so a vacation does not kill the lead.
