Turn One Recording Into Many Pieces

One good conversation can feed a post, a few clips, a quote and a blog section. Get the most from it without making thin copies of the same thing.

Why This Matters
The worst mistake is slicing one recording into twenty near identical pages. Google's spam policies call that scaled content abuse. Make fewer pieces, and make each one useful by itself.

✓ How To Do It

  1. Start with the full transcript. Read it once and highlight the three best moments, each one a clear answer or a story.
  2. Cut each moment into a 30 to 60 second clip. Follow Add Captions Once And Keep Them Readable for each one.
  3. Pull one short quote for each moment. Check that the guest really said it, word for word.
  4. Write one blog section from the best answer. Rewrite it in your own plain words, add the numbers from the talk, and give each number a source or cut it. See Give Every Number A Source.
  5. Put the full episode on one page with the transcript. Put the clips on that page, not on twenty new ones.
  6. Post the clips one at a time over a few weeks, at different times. Do not post them all at once.
  7. Link each post back to the full episode and to the guest's own site.
  8. Send the guest the links and the share kit.
  9. Mark the original recording in a folder with the clips, quotes and dates, so you can find them later.

Optional Paid Shortcut

Claude can draft a first pass of a transcript summary, a quote list or a blog section for you to edit. Check every fact and every quote against the recording before you post anything. You would not need it for a short clip you can write up in a few minutes.

Tips & Pitfalls
  • Check every fact before it goes out. Guests misremember too.
  • If a piece adds nothing new, drop it.
  • Update the page when something in the talk goes out of date.
