Write a How to Check Us Page and a Modest llms.txt
One plain page lists the facts a stranger needs to confirm you are real, and a short llms.txt file points to it. Keep both true and short.
Why This Matters
The worst mistake is thinking a file will rank you. Google says no special optimizations are needed for its AI features, so a text file is not a shortcut. What does help is a page that makes checking you easy, for people and for the tools that read the web for them.
✓ How To Do It
- Do your page fixes first. Answer lines, author pages and sourced facts matter more than any file. The older lesson, Decide if You Need an llms.txt File, makes the same point.
- Build a page called How to Check Us. Put it in your footer.
- On it list your business name, address or service area, phone, and hours. Only include what is already true on your site.
- Add license numbers linked to the issuer. Add insurance and bond facts only if you can show them. Use the steps from Link Proof to the Place That Issued It.
- Add links to your author pages and to your live review profiles.
- Add a Last updated date and keep it real.
- Create a text file called llms.txt at the root of your site. Write the business name, a single line on what you do and where, then a short list of your most important pages with one line each. Add the How to Check Us page at the top.
- Open the file at your own address in a browser to confirm it loads as plain text.
- Update the file when a main page changes. Check it each time you update the page.

Tips & Pitfalls
- Do not claim the file boosts rankings. Google does not say it does.
- Do not stuff it with keywords or with claims that are not on your site.
- If the page says something you cannot prove, remove it.
